Has anyone been to Iceland? I would love to see the Island of Fire and Ice but until I do I shall enjoy the Bald Hikers pictures and words.

Well, what a start….. and … relax ![]()
At 12.30 pm today I was still in Manchester, what surprised me was that I ended up in this volcanic water paradise of Icelandwithin 4 hours. The fresh air and paradise in the geothermal waters of Blue Lagoon Iceland. Absolutely relaxing and to think you are surrounded by the pure Icelandic, volcanic countryside.
How does it work? Well the seawater goes 2000m underground and meets the the heating force from deep inside. At this depth the temperature is 240°C/464°F and the pressure is 36 times the pressure on the earth’s surface. The geothermal seawater comes into contact with cooling magmatic intrusions and captures the earth’s minerals, resulting in this unique natural source known for its healing power and actives.
The Algae in the water is very special too. Unique to the Blue Lagoon it is part of what makes up the special nutrients here for the care and nourishment of the skin.
I must admit I found myself in the position of putting my phone and camera down and enjoying the calm, air and relaxing. As if that wasn’t enough, the exclusive lounge area brings a whole new experience. Private changing room and shower, relaxing music, a private deck, refreshments and … a private lagoon leading out into the open area. There is much much more too and a list here would prove too much. It really isn’t too expensive at all. Memorable for all.
The staff are so so helpful and genuine it really set me up happily for this Iceland trip organized by the great people of Discover The World. I’m excited of what is to come.
One strange thing
It is 11 pm here and the blue skies have come out ready for the midnight sun. Sunglasses on, nearly midnight… Love it ![]()

i Hope you enjoy reading baldHikers blog. He’s chuffed that I’m using his photos to share with you all. When you get a spare minute check over his other articles. They take you to places of the world you only ever dream of. Xxx
the banger boats have sadly found a pod of dolphins and all 12 boats are involved.
Sorry Its not good news.
Its whales and horrific. I won’t say too much. Will update in the morning. I must try to sleep now.
Thanks Ann for another brilliant post, the images from Bald Hiker are amazing. Midnight and the sunglasses are going on, lol, that must be so strange to be doing that at that time of night. Thanks Ann. Please that he is chuffed to bits that you are using his images and stories.
BTW sorry I missed you on twitter last night, fell asleep and this is me just up. Going to bed now.
Catch you in the morningx
Awful news last night about the pilot whales. I’ll leave it to you to say what happened.
Night night xxxx
Thanks ANN for another great post this morning – brilliant photos too.
As you said, bad news from Taiji.

Some really interesting links again, Marion. Thanks for posting them up.
Hello Marion – Great news about the baby Gorilla at Durrell. The staff there must be thrilled. What a little cutie.
Hope all is well with you,
Love Julie xxx
Gorgeous baby Gorilla, do hope all goes well and I’m sure we will see plenty more of her/him.
Thanks Marion you are such an early bird with your links, puts me to shame!
Dx
Hi Marion, thanks for the links, very interesting, although such a shame about the decline of habitat for these gorillas, chimps etc..
Loved the pic of the little baby gorilla, and after nine years. Hope she/he does well.
That was some sight with the mouse and locus, and 100 yrs old too, wow xxx
Cuttlefish tags: Tracking the ‘kings of camouflage’ (with video):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19677573
that was very interesting, not sure about the tag going into the bone, I would imagine it would be a bit painful if they feel pain xx
ANN – WOW!!! what a fantastic post – I want to go there!
I once went to a spa in the Black Forest fed by the thermal mineral springs, and that was amazing, swimming in the forest – but there was nowhere near the luxury that the Bald Hiker experienced. What time is the next plane?
Fantastic post Ann and also for the link to the web site,I would love to see Iceland, intended going some years back but ended up going to Prague!!!
I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland. Might actually go with Icelandair the next time we go to Florida ~ you get a free stop off at the Blue Lagoon!
I wish I could say I enjoyed my course in London. It was awful, so intense and very much directed at the Dr’s on the course (only 3 nurses and 12 Dr’s). Saw absolutely nothing of London other than the little bit between our hotel and St Mary’s Hospital. I’m pleased to say that for some unknown reason ~ I passed
Fiona – Well done you

I could tell you weren’t enjoying it, but so pleased you passed. clever girl.
Love Julie xxx
Well done xx
I knew you would do well Fiona, you are so dedicated and eager to learn, probably did better than the
doctors I wouldn’t be surprised. Sorry you didn’t get to see anything of London perhaps a weekend trip
in the Spring with Bob would be nice?
Dx
D, three of the Dr’s failed!!! xx
Not in the least surprised so many don’t seem to have a vocation these days. I bet there faces
were red when they got their results.
Dx
Well done Fiona – you must have worked very hard – you deserve it xxx
Well done Fiona
Thanks girls, looking forward to my holiday now! xx
Are you going off somewhere Fiona?
Dx
Going to Center Parcs in the Lake District for the first week of the school holidays!!
Well done Fiona, I knew you would do it no problem
quite an intense course you had then xxx
Lovely to have you back you were missed xx
Ann – I really love these posts from the bald hiker. What a place, not been there, but it will be another destination to add to the ever growing list, lol.
Fantastic photos too.
Sad news from Taiji yet again, just terrible.
Busy day today, may get back here later.
Love Julie xxx
Thanx Ann my favourite place! I took myself off few years ago for a few days. Amazing place and was safe for lone travellers. Will tell you all my story maybe later or another time. Super place all round
Just looked it up in an old passport . It was 1992! Oh dear oh dear how times flies
ANN fantastic post this morning, it looks really inviting and like many others would love to visit. Great photos from the Bald Hiker and will certainly check his other articles. Sad sad news from Taiji what a contrast, there we are trying to help one lone Minke Whale off our shores and humanely putting him out of his agony, then this atrocity across the other side of the world!
Dx
the pilot whales are currently being held in the cove. I’d imagine the slaughter Will start tonight our time. Makes me mad.
hi all,
just come on for a quick look,
read about the pilot whales i am so MAD.
shall sign off now, doubt i will be back today.
george.
Hi George hope you are doing ok today. Did Woodie enjoy his walk xx
Good evening dear Friends, hope all goes well with you and your families. Oh ANN, .what fabulous pictures you have brought us via the Bald Hiker’s visit to Iceland. With others here, HOW I should like to go there. I know just what he means when talking about the midnight sun, having seen it on my mid-summer visits to Finland – it is indeed quite an extraordinary experience. Those chairs in the place where he was staying look SOOOOO comfortable and I love all the interior design.
Like you, ANGELA, I haven’t visited Iceland but yes, I have been to Prague, quite different of course, but for me, an unforgettable visit many years ago, the architecture, and THE MUSIC…. ah.
FIONA Many, many congratulations on passing the course, not that any of us doubted that you would. Such a pity that you didn’t enjoy it with no chance of spending time in other parts of London, never mind now you have another string to your bow, so go and enjoy your well-deserved holiday my dear.
Have had rather a lot of e-mailing to get through, so haven’t yet read any of your links yet MARION. However I say thank you in advance as I shall be perusing them during the evening.
Terrible news from Japan again – when oh, when will it ever be stopped. We must never give up voicing our horror and making our protests, and as has been done by Elaine, who has taken the trouble to write letters to those who have the power to DO SOMETHING.
I wonder how Blue YD is faring in his long flight over the Sahara. Let us hope that soon we shall hear that he is safe.
I meant to say that a couple of days ago, I watched the Heron that I think Genie mentioned, fishing in the pond over at Pohtiolampi. Bye for now.
Evening Villagers – just popping in while my dinner cooks. Thank you Ann for the fabulous post on Iceland and those lovely photos from the BaldHiker. My boss has been there and from his description it is just like the photos – yes I would love to go there someday!
Marion thanks again for all your interesting clips – I will get round to reading the rest of them later – I started reading at work, then got busy – of course as its my last day before hols and my boss just realizing that I won’t be in next week! Can I just do this quickly, and this, and that LOL. Then I forgot to remind him that I’ve changed the passwords to get into the Bank for the daily statements! I will have to send him an email otherwise he will be tearing his hair out on Monday (what he’s got left of it which isn’t much!)
FIONA so pleased you passed your course! I knew you would – and I’m not surprised that some of the Doctors didn’t pass haha! well done you! Shame you weren’t able to see anything of London but I’m glad you got home safely.
Terrible news again from Japan – this time the poor pilot whales! When will this atrocity ever stop! I wonder if Elaine has had any response yet to her letters?
Going to prep the veggies now so back a bit later this evening – hope all are well, bye for now, love Jill xxx
Hi Jill, bet your looking forward to your holiday now. I would forget to tell him about the passwords, LOL, let him worry about it. Let him pull out what hair he has left ha ha ha
and you enjoy your holiday xxxx
Well going to get dinner now, been to pick up Emma, so be back later xxx
Hi all,
Lovely Post this morning Ann – the Bald Hiker takes some great pictures. I have always wanted to go to Iceland partley because I like saying Reykjavik!!
So upset about the Pilot Whales – we walked the dogs tonight on Druiridge Bay beach which is where the Minke Whale was put to sleep – obviously no sign of anything today but like Deirdre said the contrast between the two actions is just so poignant.
Jill – I hope you have a great holiday – the trees are just starting to turn so you should see some lovely autumn colours. Hope you get some sunshine to bring out the colours.
We should arrive home tomorrow all being well – will be quite sad the holiday is over but we went to some places we haven’t been to before – will tell you more when I get home as reception is not that good and I don’t want to loose this.
Night night everyone – hard to say sweet dreams with such bad news from Taiji. Which reminds me there was a picture in the paper yesterday of a little child with a Beluga Whale in captivity and the journalist said – does not the sight of a magnificant creature in captivity somehow wrench at the heart?
xxxxxx
Thanks Jack – I am hoping to see some Autumn colours and maybe sone snow on the mountain tops – especially across Glencoe and Rannochmoor. So pleased you had a good holiday and went to some new places for you. I am just looking forward to getting away again, and hope for some sunny weather. Its only a short 5-day break but any time up in those lovely mountains is a bonus! xxx
Lovely post on Iceland – my Mother went there a couple of times on a day trip and she loved it!
Re the plight of the dolphins/whales – I wrote to just about every person/organisation I could think of last year – of those that replied most were sympathetic but basically passed the buck i.e it really wasn’t something they could do anything about blah blah. I have yet to hear again from those who said they would look into it, and don’t expect to. They make me sick and so do the Japanese – they haven’t changed. Hard words but how I feel. Why are people afraid to get involved; everything has to be so politically bl**dy correct; afraid of stepping on toes.
I hear the badger cull is to start also – shooting if I heard correctly on radion this morning
I despair….
On a lighter note I saw a big fox near my house when walking Suzy – a first (the fox not walking the dog)- he was crossing a fairly busy road but quite late and he stopped dead in the middle when he saw me and the dog – so heres me jumping, stamping and waving my arms about like an eejit on the pavement!!!
