    @lindausa Happy Thanksgiving!

  • erica posted an update in the group Group logo of Village GreenVillage Green 1 year ago

@lindausa I had the offer this week of a free 6th month tablet subscription to the Washington Post. It’s quite fascinating, sports pages utterly alien, so many ‘comics’ (cartoons to us), some of which are familiar to us like Doonesbury, Garfield, and at the moment lots of analysis of Trump. But what drew my attention today was an article about…[Read more]

    • I can go you one better. Trump has said that he found the Electoral College to be undemocratic, then someone pointed out to him that he would have lost the election if not for the Electoral College!!
I despair! For those who do not understand our elections, we do not have a Pure Democracy but
a Representative Democracy. Without it, the east…[Read more]

This is particularly for @lindausa. After hearing cicadas for the first time only a few days ago we found a discarded exoskeleton on the ground today. I have been reading up and I think it’s called an exuvia. (My iPad corrected this to ’emu’ – I’m glad I noticed.) One of the several American species, and I think W Europe has only one, emerges in…[Read more]

    • Just been and looked the word up, ERICA – a new word for me!

    • @Erica, Laughing here. I just checked the # of cicada species in US and found there are 190 species in US and Canada!!! I really haven’t seen or heard one in years. Just recently talked to cousin and a friend from another county and the invasion is finally winding down. Both said it was horrible and they have at times shoveled the skeletons…[Read more]

      • Yes, I should have said ‘One of the very many N Amercan species, shouldn’t I? It’s sometimes difficult to remember what an enormous continent you live on.
I remember that some of us baulked years ago at having to write ‘about a computer ‘program’ because it was not our spelling but we all do it cheerfully now.

@lindausa. Don’t reply but I thought you might like to know that we have heard the first cicada this afternoon. It’s very hot today. I have been for a short walk and examined a couple of flowers but now I am lurking inside by the fan.

    • Hi Erica, Just heard from a friend, only 5.8 miles from me, that they have just appeared there!! We have finally had a break from the heat. It was In the high 80’s and very humid until last night. Love my air-conditioning.
Hope your cicadas are heard and not seen!!!

@lindausa. Just seen this on the BBC Sports web page

    • ERICA, Thanks, I had not heard about the Steelers using robots for practice. Will be interesting to hear how it all works out for them. They seem rather awkward watching but think the robot operator needs some practice, too.

    • I thought the robots looked like some kind of Chess pieces, until they moved.

    @lindausa
‘The Federal Income Tax Bureau’. THAT’S all right then! Best of luck.

I feel OK today. That was the most awful experience, I have to say. 21 hours of radiotherapy, lying almost flat on my back, prefaced by 6 hours, again flat on the bed, having sedation while the stuff inserted and then back in the ward lying waiting for the team to plan the pulse rate of the machine to activate. That takes several hours. My back…[Read more]

    • ERICA, What an ordeal for you. I am totally unfamiliar with this treatment unless it is called something else here. The good news……no repeats are necessary!!! What a trooper you are. Does this mean your radiotherapy treatments are over? If so, it was worth it!!! I know, easy for me to say! Enjoy your weekend.

      • It’s called Pulse Dose Rate (PDR) brachytherapy and uses sealed pack of iridium inside or next to the area treated, in my case the vagina, and pulsed from a machine for a certain number of minutes every hour, maybe 10 to 20, into activity. The radiotherapist explained that it mimics a former treatment where caesium was used temporarily placed for…[Read more]

        • ERICA, Thank you for your info. I was doing some research on my own and made it to Brachytherapy but hadn’t made it to PDR. This is all so new to me. One thinks they are keeping up but have always said, “You don’t know what you don’t know”. I am familiar with the implanting of the radioactive “seeds” but this is all new to me. How fortunate…[Read more]

    • ERICA – that sounds an horrendous day, so pleased that it is all over though and that you don’t have to face any more treatment – now you can concentrate on getting yourself feeling 100% again.

    • ERICA, that was not a very nice experience, but…. if that is all that you have to have, and it does the trick, it will be worth it and will be just a distant memory eventually. Keep the positive thoughts, and we all send our positive thoughts for both you and your OH..

    • Hello – I remember my Mother having similar to this years ago – in a sealed room which I couldn’t enter till all was switched off – but it did the job! I hope you feel better soon x

    • Oh Erica! That sound horrendous, thank goodness it is just the once. xx

@lindausa, so glad to hear that Ziggy isn’t diabetic but share your anger at the vets practice. That is not good at all, certainly doesn’t give you much confidence in them. Hope he’s feeling a bit better now x

What an awful photo. I saw a piece earlier but couldn’t look at it.
@marion I didn’t mean to suggest that I was completely at ease with Windows 10, but coming from Vista I was wondering if It was so different that I wouldn’t be able to do anything at first! I have had some teething problems this morning but mainly with Internet connection.…[Read more]

    • Well done ERICA. I am a technophobe, I wouldnt know where to start. If anything needs doing, my Son in Scotland can access my comp, and I sit here and watch what he does, although saying that, because he knows what he is doing, it all happens too quickly for me to know why he did that or that πŸ™‚

      • Excellent work! Your son has the glow of satisfaction of helping his ‘elderly’ mum while you will be sitting back with a cup of tea, smiling to yourself and planning your activities safe in the knowledge that sorting out your computer is something you don’t have to do. I like it!

        • Thank you for the `elderly`, but you are right, in 20 years time I should get a telegram from Royalty πŸ™‚ if they are still doing them then.
And yes I usually have a cuppa, with the phone in one hand listening to him, and not understanding the lingo (comp lingo) πŸ™‚

@lindausa How interesting to read of the tough Pittsburgh Steelers and of their ballet dancing. We were watching England cricket yesterday and the commentator said that the wicket-keeper had failed to catch a ball and get a batsman out because his feet were leaden. I remarked to OH that they should all have dance lessons, tap, chorus line,…[Read more]

    • Thank you ERICA for the laugh. My cold has broken so I feel a lot better. The Quick Step of ballroom dancing springs to mind.

      • They say that laughter is the best medicine, don’t they? It would be fun to see them all in their cricket whites ( and pads, perhaps) learning the quickstep. I say that as someone who has no aptitude for dancing at all. I once was practising a routine for a pantomime and ended up in a tangled heap on the floor.

        • I wanted to be a ballet dancer when I was a little girl (not very much change in height since then πŸ™‚ ), but was not very good at it (clumsy is the right word).
My Mum was a really good Ballroom Dancer and won local dance competitions with her older Brother in her teenage years. I wasnt any good at that either, but always enjoyed Old Time…[Read more]

    • It worked Erica. Couldn’t agree more with the ballerinas -glad they stood up for themselves.

    • Well replied, by the Ballet Dancers. Ballet dancers, Male and female, work harder than Footballers/Rugby Players/ and dare I say it, Tennis players, and other sports players, and in comparison are paid a pittance.

    • ERICA, @Erica Thanks, saw this afternoon but didn’t have time to respond then. You wouldn’t find our famous Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70’s making such remarks about the ballet. Many of the players, during those years, had ballet training for the balance, flexibility etc. and they won 4 Super Bowls! Loved the Pennsylvania Ballet’s response!

    • Thanks for posting the link, Erica – great response!

Good morning all at last my days off have arrived! Hairdressers later, I love going there I find it s relaxing ~ I know @jacqueline would say differently!
Huge congratulations to @lindausa and your family, exciting times ahead and I couldn’t think of anyone who would make a better grandmother xxxx

    • Ha ha Fiona – you are so right! Hope it turns out like you wish – mine never does! Enjoy your days off.

    • Hi FIONA, well, I was at the hairdressers earlier this week and I’m afraid she certainly didn’t do all that well. True the cut was fine, but the resultant blow/dry found me looking rather like a rabbit with its fur stuck to its body! However, I’m sure your coiffure will be perfect, and I hope you had a nice relaxing time at your hairdressers.…[Read more]
