Time for a cup of tea methinks before settling down to watch the tennis battle of the ‘titans’ between our Andy Murray and Djokovic. I’m rather worried that Andy might be very tired after yesterdays ‘marathon’ of a match; fingers and everything will be crossed. During that epic, of course on TV will be the dreaded ‘dance off’ from Strictly.…[Read more]

Young twins and two dogs – what other company does one need! Great photos JENNY, how fast small children seem to grow don’t they.

How glorious are the colours produced on those trees this year JENNY, veritable jewels of the forest. Thank you for bringing the photos here to gladden our eyes.

I was thinking about you both MARION when I heard the winds last night, nothing like as strong or as violent as those having been forecast for your part of the country. I’m so glad that you received no damage from either the wind or the rain. I found this afternoon, when out on my walk, many low lying lanes were completely flooded.

I have just returned from my walk and find that at such a sad time FIONA, you have taken the trouble to call in here to our Village to tell us not only about the passing of your Dad, but of that of Bob’s Dad just an hour before. With everyone here, my thoughts and prayers will be with you all as you cope with the all that must be dealt with in…[Read more]

Good afternoon Everyone. LINDA, thank you for telling us about Fiona’s Dad. I shall be e-mailing her later today. Before I go out for a walk, I just wanted to mention Montrose Basin webcam with a super clear bird feeder right in the middle of the picture where we can see so many different birds right in close up as they tuck into the seeds.…[Read more]

Good morning Villagers from a very bright, sparkling morning down here. I’ve been looking at the Seals at Sanday where what looks like a very new Seal pup is exploring while ‘mum’ is having a snooze though still keeping an eye on her baby. The weather looks so calm there just now with water gently lapping against the shore in the sunshine. I…[Read more]

Just a quick pop in to bid Everyone a good afternoon from an overcast day with spells of sharp rain and a poor forecast for tomorrow, though not as ‘violent’ as expected further across to the south east. Thank you LORNA for your screen grabs from the Lowes.
I am glued to the TV now as our Andy battles the third and final set against Milos…[Read more]

    • Nail biting isn’t it ROSY?

ROSY, I switched on for the news, to find it was the tennis. I watched him win the match.
I was exhausted and that was only watching for 1/2 hour or so, goodness knows what I would be like watching a whole match. Good luck to him for the final.

Hi ERICA. What opera did you see at the Buxton Opera House?

    • Monteverdi’s ‘Ulysses’ Homecoming’. We enjoyed it very much. I’m not familiar with his operatic work and so it was very interesting. There was some good singing with at least two fine voices, we thought. Baroque operatic singing of that type must be so difficult. We were supposed to go on Thursday too, Cavalli’s ‘La Calisto, which would have good…[Read more]

I often think of her too LORNA, and have e-mailed her but not received any reply. One can only hope that she is gradually getting better from her various afflictions.

Stunning Scotland as ever MARION. Many thanks for bringing the link here. My favourite is the one of the Deer posing for the camera.

JACKIE I have been trying to post you lower down, but for some reason, as soon as I press ‘post’ mine disappears! Wonderful good news for you both and most certainly your celebrations should be accompanied by a LARGE glass of Good Red Wine. Cheers!

Well done to the farmers of the West Country say I.

Me too ROSY. They have increased in two areas near me, which we are pleased about, as this contributes in one way, to protecting some of our fields from development.

Absolutely exquisite JENNY, right up my street. Thank you for sending us such a delight.

With no Ospreys to watch in this country for a while, how great is it to have the pleasure of watching these beautiful Seals now. When one thinks how easily they swish through the water, I can’t help feeling sorry for them manoeuvring themselves when on land. Thank you LORNA for these enchanting Seal pictures.

Having complained about the poor ‘Squirrel’ pictures from the Lowes when commenting on the Lowes’ blog to MARION, LORNA. many extra thanks to you for cleverly managing to bring such lovely clear pictures from there with such expertise.

Many thanks MARION for bringing this link over. It’s great to read about so much Red Squirrel activity up at the Lowes, but I do wish their camera brought a better picture for all of us to watch it more easily.

My goodness LORNA, you certainly have quite a large collection of Quince fruits. My bush (which still has leaves on it), only produced two fruits. I have never made jelly with them, but have cooked them with apples with a pleasant taste resulting.

    • Lorna replied 1 year ago

ROSY, I only had a few fruit on it last year, so was very surprised to how much it produced this year.
There are two kinds of Chaenomeles Japonica Quince shrubs. One flowers in the Autumn or Winter, and the other in the Spring. Mine flowers in the Spring. But we have been having such mild weather, I am not surprised things have been fooled into…[Read more]
