Good morning villagers.

These photo’s were taken on Saturday 14th May 2011. The first one is especially for Susan as she loves Lairds white fluffy bottom!!

NESTCAP FOR FRIDAY 27TH MAY 2011

FISH COUNT:  2

MORNING:

00.20  -  Lady still awake. Slight wind gusts on the nest

01.15  -  Finally asleep with her head towards the camera

01.19  -  Lady was reaching down to right under her chest area. She was gifing little twisting motions. Then settled down with her flat shuffle

02.19  -  Remains facing camera with head under wind. Briefly awakens, looks of to her left and retucks head. All quiet

04.23  -  Camera change over just after 4.00. Lady left nest for a few seconds then came back with Laird who then flew off. Lady seems very unsettled

06.00  -  Laird on the nest

06.32  -   Lady returns landing on her perch gently chirping. Laird gets up and camera zooms onto eggs, too blurred to see anythin and Lady settles on them

07.01  -  Lady lying very low in the nest with head down not moving until Laird came back with a little bark and does some furniture moving. Lady cheaping at him and off he went.

07.36  -  Laird takes over, close up of eggs, nothing has changed I’m afraid

08.11  -  Both on the nest. Intruder about, but Laird seems content to shout threats. Spoke too soon – he’s off

09.10  -  Changeover. Missed opportunity with the eggs there. Could have done with a zoom in

09.50  -  Changeover. Lady flies in. Laird reluctant to get up. Lady starts to rearrange the furniture. Laird finally gets up and they are both on the nest for a few minutes. Then Laird flies off and Lady settles on the 3 eggs. No zoom in unfortunately

10.06  -  Laird’s back doing the housework, Lady is peeping at him, and he’s off again

11.18  -  Laird brings in a large piece of bard. Lady not happy and lets him know in no uncertain terms

AFTERNOON:

12.25  -  Laird flies in, stays a while. Lady not giving up the eggs, so off he goes

12.28  –   He’s back again with branch arranges it and then flies off

13.00  -  Over the last hour Lady has turned the eggs at least 7 times!

13.24  -  Lady turning the eggs again

14.53  -  Laird arrives with a branch. Lady shouting at him as he tries to position it. Looks like he is building up the side of the perch, then he flies off

15.19  -  Laird in with a fish. Lady straight up and tries to snatch it from Laird. He shouts at her. I dont think he could release it. He flies off with it and Lady goes onto the eggs.

15.33  -  Laird back with fish, lady takes it  much more gently and flies off with it. Laird cleans his feet before settling on the eggs

16.04  -  Laird turns the eggs

16.56  -  Laird’s flown off and left the eggs exposed

16.57  -  Lady’s right behind him chirping. She turns the eggs, then settles down onto them

EVENING:

18.56  -  Laird flies in with nothing! Lady flies off after shouting for the last hour. He settles straight onto the eggs

22.37  -  Laird eating fish on the side of the nest. Lady shouting at him as she lies on her eggs.

22.43   -  Lady eventually gets up, stretches her wings, and moves towards Laird. He looks at her, she moves in and takes the fish, chirping as she does so.
She’s eating as fast as she can, and is obviously anxious to get back to her eggs – I can hear her ripping the fish apart. She’s chirping constantly as she eats – the same sound that she makes to her chicks. She’s in a dilemma – hunger and maternal duties in conflict.

22.56  -  She gets back onto her eggs – they’ve been uncovered for 13 minutes.

12.04  -  Sound of wings as something flies overhead – Lady looks up.
